What conditions do you treat?
At Godalming Physio, we support people from all walks of life, helping them move better, feel stronger, and stay pain-free. Whether you’re dealing with everyday aches and pains, recovering from surgery, or managing a long-term condition, we’re here to find the root cause and provide lasting solutions. We help adults with back, neck, and joint pain, arthritis, sciatica, and postural issues, as well as those recovering from joint replacements, spinal surgery, or C-sections. Office and manual workers benefit from our expertise in treating repetitive strain injuries and workplace-related pain, while those with chronic conditions like fibromyalgia or hypermobility receive tailored rehabilitation and pain management. Athletes and active individuals—whether runners, gym-goers, or sports players—come to us for injury recovery, performance enhancement, and prevention strategies. We also specialize in women’s health, supporting pre- and postnatal mums with pregnancy-related pain, pelvic floor issues, and postnatal recovery. Whatever your needs, our expert team is here to help you get better—and stay better!
Do I need a doctor's referral to see a physiotherapist?
We are very happy to see you without a Doctor’s referral. Following our assessment, if we feel further investigation or an onward referral is required, we may contact your GP – with your consent. However, if you are using insurance to pay for your treatment, your insurer may require a GP referral.
What should I wear to my physiotherapy appointment?
During your initial assessment, we kindly request that you wear:
- For all patients: Underwear or shorts
- For women: A regular bra or vest top (please avoid crop-top style sports bras to allow examination of the ribcage if needed)
Please be assured that your comfort and dignity are our highest priority. If you have any concerns about clothing removal, we will make appropriate accommodations to ensure you feel at ease throughout the examination.
For subsequent sessions, once we have identified the specific treatment areas, you may:
- Choose to wear light, comfortable clothing such as a t-shirt and shorts, or
- Continue with the initial assessment attire, according to your preference
How long does each session last?
We want to make sure we really understand your story and history so our sessions are longer than NHS Physio appointments – this allows us to really go into detail with you. Our New Patient appointments are 45 minutes long however if you have a complex condition or returning injury we can lengthen this to 60 minutes. Follow-up sessions are also flexible at 30 or 45 minutes, although we prefer 45 minutes to make sure you have enough time to ask all your questions and feel really confident with what you need to do before our next session.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends! Each treatment plan is carefully tailored to you as an individual, so length of rehabilitation can depend on multiple factors such as how long you have had the injury, whether you have a short term goal we need to aim for, or many other things. Rest assured though, we won’t overtreat – if you’re not improving as we think you should, we will re-assess and help you find you the fastest path to your recovery.
Will the treatment hurt?
Treatment at Godalming Physio is designed to relieve pain, not cause it! Some hands-on techniques or exercises may feel slightly uncomfortable, especially if we’re working on a tight or sensitive area, but we always work within your comfort level. You’re in control at all times, and we’ll adjust our approach to ensure you feel safe and supported throughout your treatment. Our goal is to help you move better and feel better—without unnecessary discomfort!
Payment & Insurance
What are your fees?
Our fees can be found on our pricing page.
Can I claim physiotherapy on health insurance?
We will ask you to pay for your session, and you can then use the receipt to claim back from your insurance company – this is generally the quickest way to ensure reimbursement. Please make sure to always check with your insurance company first to ensure you’re covered and they are happy with this payment approach.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major debit and credit cards or cash. We can take payments on card at the end of your session or we can send you an invoice that you can pay online.
Can I claim Pilates on health insurance?
Core stability work and strengthening during your injury phase can be covered by insurers. Unfortunately ongoing weekly Pilates is generally classed as maintenance by most insurers even though it is delivered by a Physiotherapist, however you should check the terms of your health insurance to see what is covered.
First Visit
What should I expect during my first appointment?
In the first session we discuss your medical history and your current condition. We also discuss your current ability and any goals you might have. This tends to take 20 minutes.
We then look at your body as a whole and the specific area of pain, using tailored tests and palpation to narrow down the diagnosis. This take another 10-15 minutes.
The final 10-15 minutes is dedicated to answering your questions as well as any initial treatment such as tissue therapy, Ultrasound and kinesiotaping and the provision of initial exercises. We then need to get you rebooked and take your payment.
If you feel you will need more time please book our extended 60 minute New Patient Appointment.
What documents should I bring?
The more background history we can have the better, so scans, clinic letters and the like are always useful! If you can send the information in advance to admin@ggphysio.co.uk the team will load it onto the system but we can also just take a scan when you get to us. Don’t worry too much about those big discs and dongles containing your dynamic scans though, as we can generally get all our information from the scan report document.
Can I have a chaperone?
At Godalming Physio, we’re dedicated to making your experience with us as comfortable and reassuring as possible. We pride ourselves on following The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy’s guidelines to deliver exceptional care in a safe, welcoming environment.
We are happy for you to bring a friend, family member, or partner to your appointment – just let our reception team know in advance. While we wish we could always provide a professional chaperone, we may need advance notice to arrange this.
For our younger patients:
- If you’re under 16, you’ll always need a parent or guardian by your side during your sessions
- If you’re 16 or over, you’re welcome to attend independently
Your comfort matters to us:
- We provide soft, clean towels and blankets for your privacy
- You’ll have complete privacy while changing
- You’re always in control – you can pause or stop treatment at any time
- Your therapist will listen and respond immediately to any concerns
- We’ll always ask for your permission before starting any examination or treatment
We believe in creating an environment where you feel completely at ease discussing any concerns. Your wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do, and we’re here to support you every step of the way.
Will I receive treatment on my first visit?
In the vast majority of cases, yes! At Godalming Physio, your first visit includes both an assessment and treatment. We take the time to understand your condition, identify the root cause of your pain, and discuss your goals. From there, we’ll begin hands-on treatment or prescribe targeted exercises to start your recovery straight away. Our aim is to provide relief and a clear plan from day one, so you leave feeling confident about your next steps.
General Questions
What qualifications do your physiotherapists have?
Rest assured you are in safe hands; all of our Physiotherapists have at least a BSc in Physiotherapy and are registered under the Health and Care Professions Council. In addition, many of our clinicians have undergone extensive postgraduate training. Please do check the HCPC register here
What's the difference between physiotherapy and other treatments (chiro, massage)?
Physiotherapy, regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), takes an evidence-based approach to treating movement and function impairments. Physiotherapists combine hands-on treatment with therapeutic exercise and movement retraining, focusing on helping patients develop long-term strategies to manage and prevent injuries. Physiotherapists have extensive training in rehabilitation and often work closely with other healthcare providers in both private practice and hospital settings. They are uniquely qualified to treat a wide range of conditions, from acute injuries to chronic conditions, and can provide care throughout the entire recovery journey.
While there is some overlap with other manual therapies, Osteopaths typically focus on how the body’s systems are interconnected and often use more manipulative techniques, particularly on the spine.
Chiropractors specialize in spinal manipulation and adjustments, believing that proper spine alignment influences overall health.
Sports massage therapists focus specifically on soft tissue work to aid recovery, improve flexibility, and enhance athletic performance. Unlike these other professions,

Treatment-Specific
Do you use manual therapy or machines?
We primarily use hands-on manual therapy alongside tailored exercise rehabilitation to achieve the best results. Our treatments may include joint mobilisations, soft tissue release, myofascial release, Acupuncture, trigger point needling, kinesiotape, manual lymphatic drainage, movement retraining and strength training to improve function and reduce pain. When clinically indicated we may also use specialist equipment, such as LymphaTouch and Ultrasound for scar therapy and rehabilitation, and we also have the brilliant MATT assessment tool to allow us to monitor our patients’ strength progression.
Will I need to do exercises at home?
In most cases, yes—exercises are a key part of your recovery! Hands-on treatment can relieve pain and improve movement, but to see long-term results, strengthening and mobility exercises are essential. We tailor your exercises to fit your lifestyle, making them simple, effective, and easy to follow. They might include stretches, strength work, or posture adjustments, depending on your condition. Doing them regularly will help speed up your recovery, prevent future issues, and keep you feeling your best. Don’t worry—we’ll guide you every step of the way and make sure your program is realistic and achievable!
How quickly should I expect to see results?
Everyone’s recovery is different, but many people start feeling improvements after just one or two sessions. Some conditions, like recent injuries or muscle tension, can respond quickly to treatment, while more complex or long-standing issues may take a little longer. Our goal is to provide relief as soon as possible while addressing the root cause for lasting results. We’ll give you a clear plan, track your progress, and adjust your treatment as needed to keep you moving forward. With the right combination of hands-on therapy, tailored exercises, and lifestyle advice, you should notice steady improvements and a real difference in how you feel.
What if my condition doesn't improve?
We closely monitor your progress to ensure you’re getting the best possible results. If you’re not improving as expected, we’ll reassess your condition, adjust your treatment plan, and explore alternative approaches. Sometimes, stubborn issues require a different technique, specialist input, or further investigation. If necessary, we can refer you for scans, specialist consultations, or additional therapies to ensure you get the right care. Your recovery is our priority, and we’ll work with you every step of the way to find the best solution.
Pilates
What should I wear to my Pilates Session?
We want you to feel comfortable in our pilates sessions! Here’s what to wear:
Keep it simple with light, stretchy clothing like a t-shirt paired with sports leggings or shorts. These allow easy movement through all poses and exercises.
For safety and comfort, please tie your hair back, avoid loose-fitting clothes and remove any dangling jewellery before class. Additionally, we kindly ask that you wear grippy socks and don’t apply lotions or oils before class, as these can make the equipment slippery.
That’s all you need – we look forward to seeing you!
How Can I schedule an appointment?
You are welcome to email us at admin@ggphysio.co.uk, call us on 07859981103 or use the online booking portal
What if I need to cancel my appointment?
That’s no problem. If you can give us 24 hours’ notice there is no charge. Unfortunately within 24 hours we may be unable to fill the space so we will charge you the full fee. You can let us know by email or phone call, or by cancelling via the link in the confirmation email for that appointment.
